"The fog of war" is a term used to describe the uncertainty and confusion experienced by participants in military operations. It captures the difficulty of making critical, time sensitive decisions when information about the enemy’s strength, position or intent is incomplete or unreliable.
The concept was famously popularized by Prussian military strategist Carl Von Clausewitz in his book “On War” (1832). He described war as a “realm of uncertainty” where three-quarters of the factors influencing actions are hidden in a metaphorical fog.
It is the role of Satan to completely use confusion and “fog” concerning the promises of the “Word of God”. He constantly asks, “Did God really say?” as a tactic to create “fog” and confusion to believers who do not know the scriptures. He blurs the truth to create a sense of unsurety. The scripture is clear that, “God is not the author of confusion” (1 Corinthians 14:32) “but of peace”. This verse highlights that divine influence brings order, tranquility and clarity rather than chaos, or disorder. It is often used to counsel against tumultuous situations and to promote harmonious, orderly and peaceful environments. In other words, Satan uses confusion and questioning the authority of God’s Word to create “fog” in the life of a believer. When a believer does not know the scriptures or meditate on the things Jesus has spoken over them, he or she will seldom live in victory or joy. They’ll live in a “fog”!
The enemy brings confusion and chaos, the Lord brings peace. The Word of God brings peace and we must allow that peace to clear the fog and give us direction. Paul wrote this in Colossians 3:15
“let the peace of God rule in your hearts”
This means allowing God’s peace to act as an umpire, guiding decisions and emotions to override fear, doubt and chaos. It is a call to live in harmony, thankful for God’s grace, and to let His peace rather than anxiety to govern your life.
Knowing and learning the “War Manual” (The Bible) will give you the confidence, strategy and victory over the enemy. The Apostle Paul wrote this to his spiritual son Timothy to encourage Him in how to war from victory and not in fog and confusion; 1 Timothy 1:18-20
This charge I entrust to you, Timothy, my child, in accordance with the prophecies previously made about you, that by them you may wage the good warfare, 19 holding faith and a good conscience. By rejecting this, some have made shipwreck of their faith, 20 among whom are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I have handed over to Satan that they may learn not to blaspheme.
Jesus completely destroyed the enemy through the victory won on the cross when Jesus said “It is finished”! There is a scripture that shows the result of what Jesus did in Revelation 12:7-12
Now war arose in heaven, Michael and his angels fighting against the dragon. And the dragon and his angels fought back, 8 but he was defeated, and there was no longer any place for them in heaven. 9 And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world—he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him. 10 And I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying, “Now the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of his Christ have come, for the accuser of our brothers has been thrown down, who accuses them day and night before our God. 11 And they have conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, for they loved not their lives even unto death.12 Therefore, rejoice, O heavens and you who dwell in them! But woe to you, O earth and sea, for the devil has come down to you in great wrath, because he knows that his time is short!”
This scripture describes a heavenly war where the archangel Michael and his angels defeat the dragon (Satan/the devil) and his angels. Satan is cast out of heaven to the earth, causing "woe" to the earth and sea because he is filled with rage, knowing his time is limited. A loud voice in heaven proclaims that salvation, the kingdom of God, and the authority of Christ have arrived because the "accuser of our brothers" (who accuses them day and night) has been cast down. Believers learn to conquer the dragon by the blood of the Lamb and the word of their testimony. While heaven rejoices, the earth is warned of the devil's great wrath.
The blood of the lamb and The “Word” of the Lord gives us the ability to clear away the fog and fight and win from the position of strength. Loving not your life is summed up in Romans 12:1-2.
I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. 2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
The Word of God clears away the “fog” of spiritual battle. Truth always prevails, always. Light always puts out darkness! Always!
2 Corinthians 10:4, the "weapons of our warfare are not carnal" means believers use divine, spiritual tools—rather than physical strength or worldly methods—to destroy spiritual strongholds. These mighty weapons, empowered by God, focus on tearing down arguments, humbling pride, and bringing every thought into obedience to Christ.
In the natural, the present war going on in Iran does not have much “fog” associated to it because of the years of preparation from an intelligence perspective that was done by the United States and Israel. There has been absolutely no confusion as to the focus and plan to completely destroy the “Iran Islamic Republic”. Why? Because our President has a clear focus, knows the power of our weapons, knows the weakness of the enemy and does not allow the “fog” of the political spirit to cloud his objectives and processing.
We are in a battle not only for our own souls but for the souls of our families, our cities, our states and nations. Let us rise up in strength and not shrink back as we war to destroy the schemes of the devil. We will overcome and win if we don’t allow Satan’s “fog” to stop us.
God bless!!
