Being Led By The Spirit

Being Led by the Spirit
by Paul Black

What does to mean to be “led” by the Holy Spirit? If I'm honest with myself, in my daily life I tend to think that being led by the Spirit is when He leads me into a “divine appointment” of some kind, but then for the rest of the day I’m in complete control. However, I really don’t believe that we as followers of Christ have even scratched the surface of what being “led by the Spirit” actually means. The Apostle Paul wrote this verse in Romans 8:14 (NASB)

“For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God”  View Post

Genesis 3:1 Now the serpent...said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?”

I especially love the opening lines of Genesis 1: “In the beginning, God created…” This is followed by a series of accounts that begin with, “And God said…” I find these really comforting.

“God created” tells me that we are here by design. And if we read on we see that His specific intent was for us to be with Him in unhindered fellowship and to... View Post

That I Might Share In His Sufferings - Part 3
by Brett Barry

Phil 3:10-11 I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, and so, somehow, attaining to the resurrection from the dead.

We’ll wrap this topic with a few thoughts about the practical side of sharing in Christ’s sufferings.

On the one hand, it seems strange that Paul would ask for that. Who really wants to suffer? On the other, He met Jesus in His glory and saw into eternity, enough that he understood the process for obtaining what He saw: the path Jesus took. View Post

Last week in part one, we touched on the first part of this verse, how the power of Christ’s resurrection is such a beautiful gift in our lives. It’s hope-filled, vision-centric, inspiring! But the remaining parts of the verse are more challenging to even conceive of, not to mention, live. View Post

I really like the opening “power of His resurrection” part of this verse. The thought of God, the Creator of all that exists, alive in me. The One far above and beyond all we can ask or imagine. The Eternal Authority and King who’s word is final, and who reigns and will reign forever. The One that makes possible among men things otherwise impossible. The One who always has, and always will, overcome darkness. The reality of THAT God living IN me is beyond awesome, and most desirable.

As I think about that very God living in me... View Post

I want to do something that’s a little out of the ordinary for this week’s devotional.

Cheryl shared this “Youtube” video yesterday that has now gone viral with over 120,000,000 views. That’s right, 120,000,000. Instead of spoiling it, just watch and enjoy. (Don’t read anymore till you watch the following clip)...

Colosians 1:16 For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him.

As I was studying in Colossians the other morning, I heard in my spirit echoes of two very opposing statements regarding God’s plan of salvation:  View Post

Fixing Our Eyes On Jesus

Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching. Hebrews 10:23-25

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

I hope to encourage you today by reviewing a few things you already know. View Post

Gen 1: 1 And God said…

I continually marvel at how God unpacks revelation of Himself through His creative works. As such, I especially love the creation account in Gen 1. I was reading it again the other morning when I had one of those Aha! moments (where God speaks something fresh to my spirit that I’ve not seen before).  View Post

I have been receiving daily encouraging words from Chad Camasta. They are from a woman by the name of Vana Vawser. Chad emailed this word to me yesterday and I felt it was a great follow-up to all that Randy DeMain had shared with us this past weekend. My hope is that it will bless you as much as it blessed me. Know God, Know Yourself

Know God, Know Yourself

Know God, Know Yourself

There is a way which seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death. Proverbs 14:12

“He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty! … Because he has set his love upon me, I will deliver him. I will set him on high because he has known My name.” Psalm 91

I had a dream the other night.

I was given a printed, color advertisement in the form of a booklet about the size of a CD cover. There were perhaps 10-15 pages, most of which were readily visible, though a couple were folded inward at the center. The overall piece appeared to be a promo for a clothing line, containing numerous male and female models. All were dressed fairly modestly, as far as I could tell, but, again, the center was folded in a way that I could not see what was inside. I leafed through it and as I came to the center piece I got a sense that it may be something I didn’t need to see, along with a subtle check in my spirit that I shouldn’t open it. View Post
